Background checks. Know who you are dating.

Background checks for dating someone are necessary when you meet someone important to you online, separating fact from fiction can be difficult. Are they really who they say they are? Are you missing important information? These are critical questions that you need to answer. When you know who you are falling in love with, you risk being betrayed by more than just your emotions. At first glance, it sounds like only private detectives can investigate a person’s personal history.

Today, however, there are relatively easy ways to get hold of valuable information. Whenever you meet someone online or remotely, you should always pause to see if they are possibly hiding something important from you (e.g. from social networks and more). In an ideal world, we should be able to trust the people we care about. But we don’t live in an ideal world, and when you meet someone online it is wise to double-check that they are who they claim to be.

Two  compelling reasons to check the background   of  someone you know   online

1.   Catfishing

2. Other lives and hidden details

Catfishing

In the world of online dating, a catfish is a person who creates fake profiles on social media accounts using another person’s information. or personal data. People don’t want to believe that they are being fooled. But especially if you have never met your long-distance partner personally, there is always the possibility that he is withholding parts of the truth from you.

Other lives and hidden details

Even if he’s not cheating on you, your partner may want to avoid telling you certain details about his life, it could be something small and forgivable, like a couple of speeding that he is embarrassed or maybe is embarrassed to mention it is something big and worrying. like a recent DUI, drug charges, or many tax liens that could make it difficult to buy a house together in the future. At the end of the day, it is entirely up to you to learn more about your partner’s background. Your gut instinct is telling you that you should learn more about them before things get too serious. Here are some things you can do.

Find Information  about dating a person

  Google them

Google is the first port of call for most of us when trying to get more information about a person online, but nine times out of ten simply searching for a person’s name will give basic results such as network pages. Trying to find someone with a common name will likely take you years of clicking through search results.

  • Their email address
  • Their full name in quotes (like this “FULL NAME”) and additional phrases like outstanding debt, divorce, girlfriend, boyfriend, criminal record, school, university.

 Search for social media profiles

Check out all the popular social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest). You can search for profiles on Facebook by name, location, and even group

Look them up on LinkedIn

In addition to social media profiles, check them out on LinkedIn to get a view from a slightly different angle.

Do a reverse image search

Before spending too much time chasing rabbit tracks on Google or browsing social media sites, do a reverse search on every picture your partner has sent you, including your profile photo on dating profiles or your email Account. . If you have stock photos or profile pictures from someone else’s account, a Google image search will return to wherever the photo was otherwise posted.

R everse image search:

1: Save a copy of their profile photo to your computer

2: Go to images.google.com

3: Click “upload an image”

4:Click on the search results to see where the image may have been posted elsewhere online, or explore the “Visually Similar Images” section at the bottom of the page. Do they use the same profile photo for all of their social media accounts? That’s pretty harmless. But if their profile photo appears on some stranger’s Instagram timeline, something might be funky.

  C riminal record search

Depending on the charge, criminal records aren’t necessarily a deal-breaker in a relationship. But at the very least, you probably would want to know if you’re dating a felon, especially since a felony charge can get in the way of finding a job.

Criminal records are generally part of the public record, which means they are not considered confidential and you can view them. However, criminal records are recorded and filed differently depending on local laws. If you know the county or state your partner lives in, you may be able to view portions of their criminal history online. Just Google “state/county + criminal records” and search for sites with .gov in the URL.

 public records search

Public Record Search Websites like Open Public Records or Instant Checkmate are designed to aggregate results from public records and turn information from myriad different sources into a report on the person you want to investigate. Note that these websites generally charge a fee to access the information. Instant Checkmate claims that “almost every method of accessing public records requires payment” as individuals and businesses have to pay to access the data.
